FAQ
What happens if I do not seal my concrete?
Concrete is a porous material that really absorbs liquids. In freeze thaw condition climates, the expansion of frozen liquids can destroy the surface of unsealed concrete. Oil, salt, fertilizer and other household chemicals can discolor and damage unsealed concrete.
Does epoxy offer extreme durability and longevity? I only want to do this once so is a solvent-based epoxy the way to go?
Solvent based epoxy systems are not sold through hardware stores, which is the form of epoxy that is the most durable and offers the longest life. Only water based epoxy systems are sold through Hardware stores, which are great for residential applications, but do not offer the longevity that the solvent based epoxy systems do. Epoxy It uses an industrial solvent based epoxy which adheres to residential concrete applications better, and offers the durability that customers demand. If you are considering doing it yourself with a store bought kit be aware of the life expectancy of this product in comparison to professional grade coatings and installation thereof.
Is a topcoat necessary? I have noticed most brands do not offer a topcoat.
We feel this should be a requirement for any epoxy application in order to seal in the chips, provide a uniform high gloss sheen, and to add yet another protective layer to your floor to add to the longevity of your investment.
I want a specific color base coat. Can you customize the color of epoxy?
Yes, we can customize the color of your epoxy paint to your preference.
Can I use epoxy coatings on exterior applications as well?
Yes, we offer an array of exciting decorative coating applications suited for outdoor surfaces.
How long can I expect the entire application process to take and what all is involved?
Typically two to three days depending on the type of floor treatment you choose and condition of your existing surface. Day 1 – The first step is the diamond grinding of the floor after the entire surface area has been cleared and Vacumed. A diamond grinder is a floor preperation machine that grinds the concrete surface with diamond abrasive blades, which is important to open the concrete pores to ensure a strong mechanical bond with the epoxy used. The next step involves patching any cracks with an eco patch. Once the floor is completely patched, an epoxy base coat is first applied to promote strong adhesion and to prevent moisture or air from coming up through the next layer of epoxy coating applied after the base coat is dry. Day 2: Once the base coat is ready for re-coat, the solvent based epoxy second coat is applied and color chips are added sequentially to the surface in even dispersion. Day 3 – All of the loose flakes are swept up and any high or low points are knocked down to ensure a smooth surface prior to the top clear coat being applied. The clear coat finish is then applied and will give the floor that polished look, and will lock down the floor chips and provide an easy to clean surface.
All these process can be completed in a single day with our new product Newpoxy at different rates.
Will the finished epoxy surface be slippery?
Epoxy flooring can be slip resistant by applying a textured ingredient to your top coat to enhance traction when wet.
How long will the floor take to dry after the epoxy is applied?
You can begin to move your belongings back into your garage approximately 24 hours after the final application (top coat) has been layed. We ask the customer to wait 2 days before driving automobiles onto surface to allow for enough time for the surface to cure. This is variable depending on weather conditions on that day.
